The database passwords can be found by logging into Cubview and going to the Burns Library group page at    Look for the database link near the center of the page. When you click, it will make you sign in to Cubview, then you can access the databases from the password links. Or, you can print the password list then just use the links on this page.  If this does not work for you for some reason, please email me, Mrs. Hannah at or else pick up a blue flyer from the library.

  • ABC-CLIO Social Studies: American History
    1. After log-in, choose just one database, American History to search.
    2. In the search box in upper right corner, enter with quotes "beat generation".
    3. It should return about 88 results which will include articles on Kerouac, Ginsberg, Burroughs, etc.
    4. Look at the left frame and see if there is any way to narrow down your results, like "Movements." Only use this feature if you need to get more specific.
  • JSTOR Academic Journals
    1. After logging in, register and create your own "My JSTOR" account so that you can save citations and get the full articles.
    2. Go to the Advanced Search screen. In the first line enter, "beat generation" .
    3. Immediately you will see some interesting, relevant article titles. Citation #10 on the list by Allan Johnston looks especially promising.
